My recent reading in a local newspaper has revealed some achievements in Malaysia and worldwide as follow:

1. A study by Xerox showed that 45% of office paper that end up in the bin were discarded on the day they were printed.
2. IBM Malaysia chief technologiest Lee Yu Kit says the main point that everyone should look at is how going paperless would benefit offices and organisations.
   - “The missing dimension here is the leap in productivity you achieve, so quite apart from saving physical paper, you can now do things far more quickly and efficient than before, such as searching for that note that was written 8 months ago instead of sifting through drawers full of paper. So the compelling argument for going paperless is efficiency, accuracy and cost reduction.”
3. Fuji Xerox senior manager of office product and solution marketing, Lee Chin Guan, concurs: “For us it is not ‘paperless’ but ‘paper-less,’ which is fully use paper and not let any go to waste.
   - There are lists of tools such as e-mail, instant chat, online virtual meetings, team rooms (common repositories of shared information) as paper-saving solutions that enable collaboration in a business environment.
   - Document management systems organize information for access and retrieval, and allow users to scan and move around electronic images instead of paper.
4. Digi, for instance, has introduced e-billing and customers who want paper bills will have to pay RM3.
   - Through various processes and also the use of multi-function devices, Digi has managed to reduce usage from 2.4 million sheets of A4-sized paper in 2008 to 1.7 million sheets last year.
   - Paper ordering in Digi has also been made as part of the key performance index of the corporate administration.
5. In 2001, Selayang Hospital in Selangor became the first fully electronic, paperless hospital in the country. Using wireless networking tools, doctors and technicians are able to look up patients’ X-rays and test results the moment they become available. Patients medical records and treatment plans can be accessed real-time. A spokesperson says the hospital has done away with paper internally as internal processes – meetings, writing memos, keeping medical records and such – are all done electronically, using programmes such as PowerChart. However, whatever dealings the hospital has with the external still require paper.

Therefore, all of us should contribute to our future generations by reserving natural resources on our mother earth. By cutting down wastage, supporting paperless in office, planting more trees and educating our children, we shall provide a healthier living environment for our next generations. It has been the history of life on this planet for some species to live, while others have died out. 1. Ants Problem: Keep the skin of cucumbers near the place or ant hole.
2. To get pure and clean ice: Boil water first before freezing.
3. To make the mirror shine: Clean with Sprite.
4. To remove chewing gum from clothes: Keep the cloth in the freezer for an hour.
5. To whiten white clothes: Soak white clothes in hot water with a slice of lemon for 10 minutes.
6. To give a shine to hair: Add one teaspoon of vinegar to hair, then wash hair.
7. To get maximum juice out of lemons: Soak lemons in hot water for one hour, and then juice them.
8. To avoid smell of cabbage while cooking: Keep a piece of bread on the cabbage in the vessel while cooking.
9. To rid the smell of fish from your hands: Wash your hands with a little apple vinegar.
10. To avoid tears while cutting onions: Chew gum.
11. To boil potatoes quickly: Skin one potato from one side only before boiling.
12. To boil eggs quickly: Add salt to the water and boil.
13. To check freshness of fish: Put it in a bowl of cold water. If the fish floats, it’s fresh.
14. To check freshness of eggs: Put the egg in water. If it becomes horizontal, it’s fresh. If it becomes slanting, its 3-4 days old. If it becomes vertical, its 10 days old. If it floats, it’s stale.
15. To remove ink from clothes: Put toothpaste on the ink spots generously and let it dry completely, then wash.
16. To skin sweet potatoes quickly: Soak in cold water immediately after boiling.
17. To get rid of mice or rats: Sprinkle black pepper in places where you find mice or rats. They will run away.
18. To get rid of mosquitoes at night: Keep leaves of mint near your bed or pillows and in around the room.
